Payroll changes extra burden, says specialist

Important changes to the operation of the PAYE system could put extra stresses on businesses already under pressure, a payroll specialist said today.

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is currently piloting its Real Time Information System which, if successful, will require employers to start using it from April 2013. One of the biggest changes is that businesses will have to send data about an individual’s PAYE, NIC and student loans every time they pay employees, as opposed to annually with the end-of-year tax return.

Stephen Charles, a tax manager at independent chartered accountants and business advisers Hawsons, said today: “While the new system is aimed at making the PAYE system more efficient, it’s an extra burden on businesses. Many are already outsourcing their payroll and others may feel that they want to do the same because the changes are too much to take on.”

Any businesses wanting more details about outsourcing payrolls should contact Stephen on 0114 266 7141 or e-mail: sac@hawsons.co.uk
