Superannuation Changes and Contribution Rates 2013/14
An anomaly when the new contract was introduced in 2004 meant that PCTs were responsible for paying the 14% employer's superannuation on behalf of locum GPs. With effect from 2013/14 onwards, the responsibility for this is being passed to GP practices that make use of locums. This is essentially going to make using most locums much more expensive for practices, and when agreeing rates, it may be prudent to check whether the locums are pensioning their income through the NHS scheme. Lawyers - Is Your Structure Right for You?
The Legal Services Act 2007 brought with it the possibility for Alternative Business Structures (ABS) to operate within the legal sector. In essence, it allowed non-lawyer managers to operate within and/or own law firms. Whilst this has been the case for some time now, the Jackson reforms which came into force on the 1st of April 2013 have made some stop and have another look at their business structure. From the 1st of April 2013 the sweeping Jackson reforms came into full effect in the legal sector. Few would disagree that this represents one of the biggest shakeups in recent memory in the civil justice system. 2012 Autumn Statement - An update
We recently published our Autumn Statement summary and promised to provide you with an update if there were any significant announcements. On 11 December much of the draft legislation for the Finance Bill 2013 was issued for consultation and once again HM Treasury did not disappoint.
